SLBEF Privacy Policy

The Policy

This policy describes how Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity, Inc. and Sigma Lambda Beta Education Foundation, Inc. (hereinafter collectively referred to as “SLB,” “we,” “us,” or “our,”) will utilize information collected from and provided by you (hereinafter referred to as “You,” or “you,” “your”) through use of any of its online applications, online services and websites (hereinafter collectively referred to as “Online Portals”, correspondence (mail, email or telephone), membership applications or any form you voluntarily submit to us. Informaion collected from and provided by you will be shared between and used by Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity, Inc. and Sigma Lambda Beta Education Foundation, Inc. (hereinafter collectively referred to as “SLB,” “we,” “us,” or “our”).

Other portals may be added temporarily or permanently from time to time and such updates may or may not be reflected on this page.  Only official portals owned and operated by SLB are covered under this policy.

Data Transmission

SLB values the importance of keeping your data safe.  Whenever collecting sensitive or financial information, SLB shall employ Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology for data encryption.  To use our Online Portals that employ SSL technology, you will need a modern internet browser that is SSL-enabled.

How Your Information is Used

SLB may use information it collects from you for purposes including, but not limited to: carrying out a registration or request made by you; customizing the advertising and content you see through our Online Portals; fulfilling your requests for products and services (including purchases); maintaining and improving the content and overall look and feel of our Online Portals and services; contacting you; conducting research; providing anonymous reporting for internal and external clients.

SLB may use third parties to help us provide specific services, such as processing payments, fulfilling orders, maintaining our Online Portals or monitoring Online Portals activity. If personally identifiable information is provided to any third party that is providing specific services, we will require that such information be maintained by them in the strictest confidence and used only for the purpose of providing the specific services.

You should be aware that we may disclose specific information provided by you if necessary to do so by law or based on our good faith belief that it is necessary to conform or comply with the law or is necessary to protect the users of our Online Portals or the public.

Donor information may be used for recognition purposes only.

If you have submitted personal information to us and would like it removed or modified, please contact our Executive Office.

How Your Personal Information is Disclosed

SLB does not sell to, rent to or trade personally identifiable information with any individual, business, government entity or outside parties except: (i) to provide products or services you’ve requested through us; (ii) in response to a validly-issued subpoena, court order, or other legal process; (iii) when necessary to establish or exercise our legal rights or defend against legal action; or (iv) where you request SLB to do so.  From time to time, SLB may use return email addresses to answer any email we receive from you.  Such addresses are not used for any other purpose, other than for SLB-specific business.

Cookies

When you use our Online Portals, we may store a “cookie” file on your device’s hard drive.  A cookie is a file that stores login and other website tracking information.  Cookies are used to simplify your access to our online portals as well as customize or facilitate your online experience.  Cookies are files that can only be read by the website that created them.  You should know that we do not use cookies to store credit card information.  Nowadays, most internet browsers are set to automatically accept cookies.  You can prevent this from happening through your browser settings.  If you choose to not accept cookies, you may not be able to access our online portals or your online experience may be negatively affected.

Online Communication

SLB may automatically add you to online mailing lists upon collecting your email address.  Because SLB abides by the CAN-SPAM Act, you may modify your subscription preferences or unsubscribe from electronic communication.  You can request to not be added to any online mailing lists by contacting the Executive Office.

For your convenience, our Online Portals may contain links that point to websites or locations external to SLB or our Online Portals.  SLB does not endorse or otherwise accept responsibility for the content or the privacy policies of said websites.  SLB encourages you to review the privacy policies of those websites for your protection.

Changes to This Policy

From time-to-time, SLB may revise this Privacy Policy without any notice to you.  You are advised to review the most up to date Privacy Policy located at www.sigmalambdabeta.com/privacy.
