The Sigma Lambda Beta Education Foundation is proud to announce Brother Jose Torres-Gonzalez from the Sigma Gamma Chapter at the University of California Santa Barbara as a recipient of the 2023 Opportunity for Wisdom scholarship. Brother Jose will be able to apply this $1000 scholarship towards his college expenses. Please read his letter and view his message below.
To the Donors of the Sigma Lambda Beta Education Foundation,
Thank you so much for creating a scholarship that recognizes and supports brothers for upholding the fraternity’s principles with the highest standards. Those who have worked tirelessly to embody the values of the fraternity through their accomplishments deserve to be acknowledged.
I am very honored to be one of the recipients of the 2023 Opportunity for Wisdom Scholarship provided by the Sigma Lambda Beta Education Foundation. I would like to thank the brotherhood for continuously supporting my goals and aspirations. The brothers I have met in the Oh So ΣtunninΓ! Sigma Gamma Chapter at UC Santa Barbara, West Region, and beyond have been very influential to me, both personally and professionally. The fraternity has provided me with so many lifelong friends and has given me opportunities for growth that I would have never been exposed to without the brotherhood, and for that I am very grateful.
Sigma Lambda Beta has played a large role in my pursuit of matriculating into medical school and eventually becoming a physician leader who will help tackle the healthcare disparities that affect underrepresented communities. I owe the development of my leadership skills and the confidence I’ve gained to the fraternity. These skills have helped me thrive in new environments where I can network with healthcare professionals and like-minded pre-medical students. I look forward to applying these skills as a medical student and as a physician in the future. Receiving the 2023 Opportunity for Wisdom Scholarship will drastically reduce the expenses of my medical school application and therefore further support my goal of becoming a physician.
I sincerely thank Sigma Lambda Beta International Fraternity Inc. for everything the organization has provided me and instilled in me as I continue my medical journey. Thank you for the ongoing support and I cannot wait to make everyone proud soon.
